Capability Statement

Powerful and lightweight phase-change cooling gear worn over or under hazmat suits and protective gear that protects disaster response, first responder, and field personnel from heat stress. No power, or batteries required.

Why it matters: After Hurricane Beryl (Houston, 2024), researchers found post-storm conditions unsafe for unacclimatized relief workers doing moderate-to-heavy labor 74-100% of the time, and unsafe in every scenario once restrictive protective gear was worn.

COMPANY OVERVIEW

ThermApparel designs and manufactures personal cooling garments that use non-toxic, bio-based phase change material (PCM) to pull heat from the body and lower core temperature. Our vests are worn under uniforms, protective suits and outer layers by people who must keep working when heat, humidity and long shifts become a safety risk.

  • Skin-safe cooling - packs freeze at 70°F (21°C): no frostbite risk, no condensation, no wet clothing.
  • Up to 4 hours per pack set; recharge in 30 min in ice water, 45 min in a freezer, 60 min in a fridge.
  • Continuous cooling - a second pack set swaps in while the first recharges.
  • Long service life - packs reusable thousands of times over ~3 years, with a take-back recycling program.
